Sun Catcher Valentine
I love anything that we can display in our window. We made this a tradition during quarantine to both display the artwork we made at home but also spread cheer to our neighbors and those who passed by.
One project I love doing with the kids is sun catchers. They are super easy, fun, and striking when you hang them in the window. I especially love these Valentine-themed ones.
Ingredients:
tissue paper in different colors (for this I like to use purples, pinks, and reds)
scissors
contact paper
construction or colored paper
pencil
Instructions:
Start by cutting the tissue paper into small squares about 1x1 inch.
Take your construction paper or other colored paper (I used red here) and trace two hearts onto it. Then draw smaller hearts inside both of the larger hearts. Cut these out. You will be left with two heart outlines.
Take one heart outline and contact paper and trace the large heart you cut onto the contact paper. Cut the contact paper out.
Take the protective paper off of the contact paper and attach it to one side of your heart outline.
Using your tissue paper, layer pieces on the contact paper cover all of the stickiness. Once it is all covered, take your second heart cutout, line it up with the heart, and glue them together sandwiching the tissue paper inside.
Optional: Punch a hole in the top of the heart and take a piece of string, yarn, or ribbon to hang. Make as many as you want in all different sizes for lots of decorations.
