Getting Ready for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is one of my favorite holidays, but not for the reasons you would think… I do not buy into the commercial aspect of it, instead, I use it as a way to really show the ones I love around me how much I love them, especially my little ones.
For years now I have been adding a heart from February 1-14 on each of my kids’ doors that say one reason I love them. They get so excited and my heart melts writing them.
Another fun thing we do is handmake our valentines. It is something I love doing, but also instills in the kids thoughtfulness and giving. For the record, I have zero against store-bought cards, those are awesome too! This year we made a whoopee cushion valentine for my son and my daughter wanted a unicorn one.
We also have a tradition of making Valentine’s Day mailboxes to take to school to keep all of those valentines in that their friends give them. One year my son was super into Harry Porter so we made a Book of Monsters that was epic. This year the kids made a Minecraft and Rainbow one respectively, but with a few simple materials (a box, any kind, and some stickers or paper) you can easily make one your child will love.
What are some Valentine’s Day traditions you love to do with your kids?
