Celebrating Halloween COVID-Style

We all know that this Halloween is going to look a little different than others, but that does not mean we can’t still show our kids a good time.

This Saturday we are doing things a little different around here, and you can too with a few ideas below.

Trick or Treating the Safe Way

We are not handing out candy the traditional way, instead we will be hosting a small, neighborhood gathering where the neighbors hand out candy in a socially distanced, safe, but fun way.

Here are some of the ideas my neighbors and I are pulling out this Halloween.

Trunk or Treat

Some neighbors including us will be handing out candy via the trunks of our cars. We will be decorating our car with spooky decorations to hand out candy to the 12 kids in our neighborhood.

Candy Graveyard

Some neighbors have opted to create a candy graveyard on their lawn. Kids can come and grab a piece of candy without having any interaction with anyone. Attach them to the tombstones, or use skewers or wood dowels to have them popping out of the ground.

Candy Shoot

This is a popular one! Take any poster tube or long, skinny cardboard box and decorate it. I love the ones with black and orange electrical tape personally. Then shoot the candy out to the trick or treaters from six feet away!

Candy Hedges

Have a hedge or bush handy? Tie treats to the branches or spin a web around them to nestle the candy in and make a festive decoration and an easy way for kids to grab a treat and leave.

Treat Table

Set up a table and decorate it anyway you would like. With potions and brews, or with a simple table cloth and pumpkin buckets full of treats. Kids can come and grab a treat and move onto the next house with ease.

Halloween Scavenger Hunt

In addition to the above, we will also be hosting a neighborhood scavenger hunt. I took ghosts and created clues and placed them all around the neighborhood with Halloween symbols and pumpkin buckets with treats.

I gave each family the first clue with instructions and left them to find the others on their own, complete with treats along the way.

How do you plan on celebrating this Halloween?
