Ways to Celebrate the Season (Safely)
Cut down your own tree and decorate it!
Find a local farm and harvest your own tree! You can keep safely distanced from other families and then bring it home and decorate it. This is one of our favorite family traditions as my husband’s family has been going to the same farm in CT for over 30 years.
Drive through a town or display with Christmas lights.
All across the United States there are those special neighborhoods that go all out with their decorations, many you can drive through for free or give a small donation for charity. But there are other places like Winter Wonderland in Westchester that decorate an entire park (2 miles long) that you can pay to drive through. Totally worth it and the perfect COVID-friendly holiday celebration because you stay in your car the entire time.
Private visit from Santa
Is your usual visit to Santa cancelled or impacted by COVID? Hire or ask someone local to suit up and pay a visit to your home. Face shield and masks still a must.
Holiday movie night In
I love this version from Country Living Magazine and we did it a few weeks ago. It offers up Holiday Movie Bingo cards, great decoration ideas including popcorn and tickets, and is super festive.
Bake cookies and deliver them to neighbors
We not only love baking cookies, but we also love delivering them to friends and neighbors.
Sing carols around your neighborhood as a family
Whether you are a good singer or not, singing loud for all to hear is the best way to spread Christmas cheer. Gather your family and sing while keeping your distance but spreading holiday cheer.
Make a commemorative ornament
We do this every single year and it is one of my favorite traditions. Check out the ornament how-to for the one we made this year here.
