Valentine’s Day Pop Up Cards
You may have seen my holiday/winter pop-up cards, and these are very similar, but timed perfectly for Valentine’s Day.
You can use similar techniques for any holiday, but change up the theme.
For these pop up cards, I used hearts and “love” plus lots of red, pink, and blue (because after all violets are blue).
Ingredients:
paper (all kinds of paper)
scissors
glue stick or glue dots
markers
glitter pens (optional)
glitter paper (optional)
Instructions for the 3D Heart Card:
Trace three hearts onto paper and cut out. Fold each heart in half.
Using a glue stick or glue dots, attach the hearts back to back so they are all stuck together.
Take a piece of 8 1/2x11 paper in a different color than your hearts and fold it in half.
Place the 3D heart flat side in the middle of the fold inside the 8 1/2x11 paper you folded in step 3. Using a glue stick or glue dots, attach the heart to the inside of the card.
To the outside of the card, draw, write, or add letters you have cut out to the front to decorate. Add glitter or stickers as you see fit.
Instructions for Pop Out Heart Card:
You will need two pieces of the same color of 8 1/2x11 sized paper. Take the inside piece and fold it in half.
Using your scissors, cut the top part of a heart into the fold, and a bottom point of a heart in the fold. Note: Do not connect your cuts, these should be two separate cuts or it won’t pop out.
Open the folded paper with your cuts and push the “heart” shapes inside the card then fold the paper in half again.
Take the second piece of 8 1/2x11 paper and using a glue stick or glue dots attach it to the outside of the paper you cut your heart into.
Using letters, stickers, markers, or glitter pens, decorate the inside and outside. We used our heart and red letters to spell out LOVE inside the card and then attached a red glitter paper heart to the outside to finish.
Instructions for Pop Up Heart Card:
Plan what you would like to have pop up inside the card. If you want hearts like I did, plan how many hearts, this will determine how many slits you cut in this step. If you want to spell out something like “love” you will need to cut a slit for each letter. Once you have determined what your pop up will include, take one of the pieces of paper, and cut slits in the fold about an inch two inches wide (see example here).
Open the folded piece with the slits, and take every other slit and fold it inside the card.
Take other paper (red and pink in this case) and cut out what you want inside of the card to pop up. I chose to cut out hearts in different sizes and shades of pink and red. Then I layered them one on top of the other.
Using a glue stick or glue dots, attach your cut out pieces to the slits inside the card.
To finish, add another piece of 8 1/2x11 paper and fold it in half. Glue it to the outside of the piece with the slits and now pop up pieces. Write on the outside or add more letters, hearts, or stickers, etc. Don’t forget to sign the inside!
