Pinecone Turkey Family

Pinecone Turkey Family The Crafty Mommy

This week I took my kids and we went foraging for leaves, pinecones, and whatever we could find to make some fun, fall crafts.

We found these amazing, different sized pinecones in our neighborhood and it sparked an idea to make a turkey family.

As we made them we talked about how everyone is different in our family, and around the world, but that’s what makes us all so special.

For the turkey feathers, we used faux feathers, but we also used a variety of leaves we found while foraging, and some paper feathers I had cut out.

  • Ingredients:
    pinecones in different sizes

  • glue dots or hot glue (I prefer hot glue for this one)

  • faux feathers, leaves, or paper feathers

  • scissors (optional)

  • turkey cut outs

  • yellow and red paper or cardstock

  • googly eyes

  • paper for accessories, ribbon, felt, etc.

Instructions:

  1. Start by printing the turkey cut outs here and cutting them out and tracing them onto the paper or cardstock you are going to use.

  2. Glue the googly eyes, wattle, and beak to the top front of the pinecone.

  3. Take the feet (I usually use cardstock for these so the turkey stands up on its own) and glue these to the bottom of the pinecone.

  4. Take the feathers or leaves and glue them in a fan pattern on the lower back of the pinecone.

  5. You can add as many or as few accessories as you want. Cut out paper hats, scarves, mittens, eyelashes, eyeshadow, necklaces, etc. as you want. Your turkeys should have as much personality as the members of your own family!
