Graduation Celebration Ideas
Whether your little one is graduation preschool, kindergarten, moving up to middle school, or graduation high school or college, I have ideas for everyone to celebrate this momentous occasion.
DIY Mortar Board
What little one (or mom) doesn’t want to see his or her kiddo with a full on mortar board? This mama does, but neither one of my kids have had their own thus far, so I decided to make them some!
Ingredients:
black paper
scissors
stapler or tape
hot glue
yarn
brad
Instructions:
Start by cutting strips of black paper and measuring around your child’s head to see how long the strip should be to go around his or her head.
Staple the strips together to make one long strip, then connect it at the ends with another staple.
Using your scissors cut small slits all the way around the top of the strip to make it more pliable, about every two inches. Bend these pieces outwards to create a place to put the top of the hat.
Take another piece of black paper and cut it into a square 8 1/2 x 8 1/2 inches.
Hot glue this to the square piece to the bent pieces from step 3. This is your hat, now it’s time to finish it.
Poke your brad through the center top of the square from step 4.
Using the yarn (color of your choice) create a simple tassel. I love this tutorial the best. For this craft it’s totally fine and I prefer to use the yarn as the tie. And then you attach the tie to the brad to complete.
Mortar Board Gift Card Holder
A few years ago I made this mortar board gift card holder. It was so fun and easy, I have made it a few times since. As you know, I don’t mind giving gift cards, but I always feel they should be personalized.
Ingredients:
black card stock
scissors
pencil
small hole punch
embroidery thread
hot glue or double sided tape
white or metallic marker
Instructions:
Start by printing the template and cutting it out. Trace both templates on the black card stock and cut out.
Take the small square and line it up on the backside of the mortar board. Secure the sides - leaving enough room for the gift card to slip in - with double sided tape or hot glue.
Make a small tassel using the embroidery thread. I like to follow this video as a visual.
Punch a small hole in the top of the mortar board and thread the end of the tassel through. Knot to secure.
On the front write Class of 2021 or Congrats in a marker that will show up on the black paper such as white or metallic.
Last Day of School Sign
I do one of these on the first day of school and the last day of school every single year. And I love that you can easily personalize them, purchase them from My Tree Wishes (my fave) and print them within a few hours!
I take photos of the kids with them and then keep them in their memory boxes for years to come.
Last Day of School Treats
We always do a fun, celebratory breakfast or after school treats for the kids on their first and last day of school!
It usually involves homemade pancakes for breakfast (their favorite) but with a twist… I usually add in sprinkles, marshmallows, and/or chocolate chips to the batter… whatever they choose or cupcakes or ice cream sundaes after school.
Then they get a fun decoration and candles! These are the moments we are making into memories so I always try to think of what they will love and look back on and remember.
